  • Clearly anyone living 930 years old is breaking the natural laws of the universe - so if Adam did live 930 years old it would have been, by definition, a miracle. I am not a Christian but I feel that I am able to answer this question from a neutral stand-point.
  • because he was a fictional charecter, thats how! lololol (no offence intended to anyone, although i know someone probably will.... *sigh*)
  • A high fiber diet...mostly apples.
  • Time was, and continues to change. Time is not fixed, it varies. This is because the Alpha constant, the fine structure constant in cosmology, is not constant. Small variations in Alpha cause time to change. Thus rocks appearing to be 4.6 billion years old, and which from our point of view, ARE 4.6 billion years old, are not on an absolute scale of time. In a nutshell, you can't measure absolute time from a single frame of reference (the present), and it is extremely difficult to even approximate the measurement when you are moving within the frame of reference. For instance, can you tell how fast a train is moving while you are in a moving car? If you look at the speedometer in your car, you can guess, but what if your speedometer only applies to your vehicle? That is, it's only accurate within your frame of reference. That's a scientific explanation for fluid time. Or, some Christians just take it on Faith.
  • First of all - Adam was not a Christian - he lived 4,000 years before the man that you are claiming that he followed. How did he live so 930 years. He was created as a perfect man, meant to live forever. Jesus spoke of Adam as a historical person, see Matthew 19:4-6. He was not some allegorical character. When Adam sinned, he lost the right to everlasting life for himself and for all of his yet unborn offspring. (Genesis 2:17) When he became a sinner because of his disobedience, he became defective, imperfect. From that time on, Adam’s body became, in effect, programmed for death. As the Bible says, “the wages sin pays is death.” (Romans 6:23) Moreover, the imperfect offspring of Adam also became programmed for death, not for everlasting life. The Bible explains: “Through one man [Adam] sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned.” (Romans 5:12.) When Adam and Eve disobeyed and were put out of the Garden of Eden, did God change his purpose for humans to live forever in Paradise on earth? Not he did not. For God to have done that would have been to admit defeat as to his ability to carry out his original purpose. We can be certain that God does what he promises, as he himself says: “So my word that goes forth from my mouth will prove to be. It will not return to me without results, but it will certainly do that in which I have delighted, and it will have certain success in that for which I have sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11). That the purpose of God for the earth has not changed is made clear in the Bible, where God promises: “The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it.” Even Jesus Christ said in his Sermon on the Mount that the mild-tempered ones would inherit the earth. (Psalm 37:29; Matthew 5:5) Yes , Adam could have lived forever, and because of Jesus’ ransom sacrifice, now we have the opportunity to live forever again.
  • Adam is a character from a book written nearly 2000 years ago. As such, his age would be written in whatever format they used then. The format for age used back then was the LUNAR CYCLE. There are 13 new moons in one of our years, doing some simple maths gives us a "real" age of Adam of 71 and a half years. That is a much more realistic age, assuming he was real.
  • The same way each of us lives today - God decided how long he would live and that's what happened.
  • Perryman has in a way answered d question of Adam living for 930years...Adam was created with eternal life which in itself was the very nature of God,his essence..That is the reason why Jesus came, John 10:10 says that Jesus came that we may have life and have it more abundantly..Also, John 3:16 says that God so love the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him will not perish, but have everlasting life. Point to note, this is God bring back what he had originally planed for mankind. Greek meaning for this eternal life is ZOE...It's a life with no ending...
  • lol sorry to burst your bubble slothmister, but you're logic is flawed. If this whole deal with the Lunar Cycle were true, then according to Genesis 5:15 Mahalalel, who begat Jared at 65 years of age, would have had to impregnate a woman at the age of 5... Of course, you could argue that God endowed his sperm with supernatural powers. God + Pregnancies = some pretty crazy stuff, like that woman (Mary) who got pregnant... yet was a virgin... Adam lived 930 full years according to the Bible. And the TRUE answer is that he did not live that long, for he never existed.
  • Scientists believe that there was a vapor canopy over the entire Earth before the flood which kept things at a constant moist temperature. There was probably higher air pressure and possibly more oxygen in the air. Recent experiments show that high pressure + increased oxygen cause patients to heal very rapidly. This might explain why thwere are tropical fossils in the arctic. The vapor canopy was destroyed when it rained the first time and caused the flood. There are lots of examples of marine fossils on top of mountains. Anyway, this rapid healing + pleasant, unchanging climate + near perfect genetic structure in humans would've caused Adam to live very long. After a few thousand years the genetics break down and we rarely live past 90 or 100 now. We only live longer than in the Middle Ages because we discovered medicine and hygiene.
  • Because everyone in that time lived to be really old. Some say it was because God wanted to populate the earth.
  • Time for a very winded answer to your post. I hope I can provide a bit of insight. Im not a Scholar or a Theologist but I do study the bible quite frequently and there are several possible or multiple causes for this. I will begin simply and then continue to some of the more elaborate. 1. For the first 2000 years the earth was fruitful but the population of mandkind was 2... The lord said to Adam and Eve "Be fruitful and multiply." Gen 1:28 And perhaps he extended the lifespans of Them and several generations after so they had ample time to populate the planet. 2. It obviously was not a purity of being the first generation quite simply because 7 generations of inbreeding produced Methuselah, the oldest documented person in the bible at 969. And Noah 2 generations after Methuselah lived to be 950, also older than Adam. 3. It had never rained untile the great flood. Creating a protective layer of water in the atmosphere to block out negative gamma and other cosmic rays. Gen 1:6-8 "Then God said, "Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of heavens from the waters of the earth." And that is what happened, God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens. God called the space sky." And even though Noah lived to be 950 he was around 600 years before the waters of the heavens were purged to the earth. After Noah there is a drastic drop in the ages people lived. The next oldest after Noah was his son Shem who lived 450 years less than Noah himself to 500. After that we see a steady decline of ages through 7 or so generations. Terah, Abram/Abraham's father only lived to be 205. Abraham to only 175. I still dont think in the last 2000 years any man has lived over 120. Which brings me to my last scenario. 4. God willed it. Its as simple as this people. God allowed people to live longer back then. People turned to a life of evil and sin and god could simply not put up with humans in the mortal flesh for such a long time. If not for Noah we would not exist at all. God put a limit on our lives, not science. Why? Maybe it was because with such a long life we have so much time to fill our lives/minds with sin. And damn ourselves to hell because of our logical minds trying to find an alternate belief. Perhaps he did not wish to wait to be with our spirits. God said it himself that he is a jealous God. Perhaps he saw us spending our time with other humans and not looking to the Lord, became jeaolous and shortened our lives to be with him sooner. There are many more theories of why god shortened our lives than there are why our ancestors lived so long. I hope I have shared what little light I have on this subject with even one of you. I look forward to joining more conversations in the future. --humblesinner
  • According to the Bible, Adam lived for 930 years, Seth for 912, and Methuselah for 969—just 31 years short of a thousand! (Genesis 5:5, 8, 27) Were those years similar in length to ours today, or were they shorter periods, perhaps equivalent to our months, as some have suggested? The internal evidence in the Bible points to literal years similar in length to ours. Consider: Had the ancient year been only as long as our month, the following men would have become fathers at an impossibly early age: Kenan before he was six years old, and Mahalalel and Enoch just over the age of five.—Genesis 5:12, 15, 21. Moreover, the ancients distinguished between days, months, and years. (Genesis 1:14-16; 8:13) In fact, Noah’s detailed chronology helps us to determine the length of a month. A comparison of Genesis 7:11, 24 and Genesis 8:3, 4 shows that five months—from the 17th day of the second month to the 17th day of the seventh month—equaled 150 days. Evidently, then, Noah employed a 30-day month, 12 of which added up to a year.—Genesis 8:5-13. Those who lived before the Flood were much closer to perfection than we are today, and this was no doubt a major factor in their longevity.
  • with God anything is possible. Adam was extremely faithful to the lord. (expect when he ate the fruit)God still needed Adam to spread God's word and serve him so he kept him around. When God says your times up it's up you have no choice. God has your life all planned out for you.
  • In the end, if you are a Christian and you believe in an omnipotent God, then you will believe that Adam could and did live to be 930. If you do not believe in the God of the Christian Bible, then you are going to have a hard time believing a man was made out of mud and lived this long. All of these scientific explanations aren't really necessary because what truly allows a person to believe that was Adam 930 is faith, thus the only answer for how Adam lived so long is that God willed him to.
  • Would you like the Biblical answer, or my answer? : D
  • READ THE BIBLE!
  • through God's grace, but I believe HE did not shorten the life span of man until after the Deluge, it is in Genesis....HE would not let them live this long anymore..because of their sinful ways.HE was even sorry HE made man..but I think God made POINT of letting ALL HIS...live and die before the Flood .....because ALL HIS were passed on at time of flood because the WORD tells us only 8 people in the entire earth were save!!! Noah , his wife,3 sons and their wives... I can find scripture if you want...
  • Diet pills.
  • OOps...already answered..flag please. :-)
  • Because God was good to him. Also, people lived much longer back then, since most people back then loved God.
  • Great immune system!Ate organic foods, uh, enjoyed life, oh and that great guy named God-yeah he was pretty vital in that =)
  • There is a very simple answer. Before the flood, there was no rain. Instead, In Genesis 2:6, it says that "But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground." Basically, the earth was covered with a mist that gave constant moisture to all. This veil of water also kept out the harmful radiation of the sun. Because of this constant protection and nourishment, one can assume that plants, humans, and animals all lived for long periods of time. At the very least, longer than they do now. As a side-note, this also helps to explain a little on Dinosaurs and their size since some lizards don't stop growing until they die. Back to the point, Adam, without the harmful radiation from the sun and that consistant nourishment from the mist coupled with an all-natural diet, probably could have lived those 930 years it says he did. This also helps to prove why all his descendants lived so long too. Right up until the flood, in which the mist all crashed down. Without the mist, the sun's radiation hit the earth. Which is why the lifespans of Noah's descendants suddenly drop right after the flood. I have no scientific evidence to prove this, but I'd say it's a pretty good theory.
  • Are you talking about Adam Sandler? Because if you are, he didn't died yet :)
  • Wow. You people are idiots, the ones who think God, and everything he wrote was a myth. I feel bad for you, let the blind lead the blind for they will fall into a ditch. I'm not even going to respond to those who are in the dark. To answer your question, mostly some people on here have said it for me. Adam had the gift of everlasting life. Once he and Eve broke that, with sin, our immortal bodies suddenly became mortal. Again as time went on our life spans became shorter because of the more sin that came into our lives. It is as simple as that.
