  • Hindus seek enlightenment, possibly before they pass away. When one has ,what is called God consciousness, they are forever free from the cycle of reincarnation. There is a belief in Karma and what ever you do will effect your evolution towards enlightenment. So the judgments are not between good and bad but just experiences. When one has not learned the lessons needed for God consciousness one must return into a body many thousands of times. Thats why we here sometimes the term "old soul".When one dies they forget their past lives but bring along the lessons they have already learned from past lives.Deja Vu are some scattered memories from past lives. Souls are recycled.
  • The basic tendency of a human being is to search for happiness/ bliss. We are always thinking in the direction of doing things that give us happiness. Sadly, in worldly life happiness is short-lived. Eg: relationship can fail, you may love your career but may end up with problems in your career, death of a loved one etc. Everything is temporal. When we are liberated, we merge with God. God is absolute bliss!! We can merge with God only through spiritual practice, I suggest you visit http://www.spiritualresearchfoundation.org/spiritualresearch/happiness/ for more info.
  • The desires are for liberation, come when one realizes that earthly existence is a circle of never ending, and never fulfilling cycle of desires. Once one achieves one desire they get bored and need to seek another.Hindus believe that life is a delusion because everything is constantly changing and therefore not real. Through meditation the mind escapes from the world and finds the essence of god.Through continued practice one will break the bonds of desire and reach enlightenment, but this could take many lifetimes.
  • i m only guessing on this so i could be wrong but the word Nirvana is the first that comes to my mind.
  • The liberation from Earthly existence is called nirvana or moksha. I am trying to ask around here (I'm in India) and find out if there is a term for it. A friend has quoted the Bhaghavad Gita, "karmanno vadhikaraste maphaleshu kadachana," which is a teaching to do your kharma and not worry about its fruits, for the ultimate fruit is moksha. In order to liberate oneself from Earthly existence, one must release all desires, including the desire to be liberated. I hope this helps.
  • Vedantic thought sets higher desires/goals of attaining Godhood as a possibility for humans through correct spiritual practices. Earthly existence is all we know now with all its changing times of happiness and sorrow. Human desire is for seeking the pleasant and avoiding the unpleasant. As far as we know, every thing on the earth seems to be impermanent. If there is a place or dimension even if it is other than the earth where we can be happy all the time, we want to go there and we want that place to be the one where we have no more desires to be fulfilled because we are at peace. Desire for liberaton from the earthly existence is the desire to be God Himself because that is who we truely are. Of course, here the perspective also changes. God's desires are worthy and worthy desires have power of their own to be fulfilled. So that is it.
