I'm Canadian. Officially we are a constitutional monarchy. Queen Elizabeth is our head of state. Practically speaking, we are a parliamentary democracy. The Prime Minister (Stephen Harper) is the head of government. His party (the Conservatives)currently form a minority government because they have a plurality, but not a majority of the seats in the House of Commons.

Federal Parliamentary Democracy and Constitutional Monarchy. Canada is a federation, which means powers are shared between federal and provincial governments

A democratic government with a Federal level and provincial/territorial levels and municipal levels.
Main parties at the Fed and Prov levels are Conservative (right), Liberal (middle), NDP (National Democratic Party - left)...Green is catching up each 4 years....

Currently, the ruling party for Canada as a whole is the conservative party. Each province has its Premier from one or other of the political parties. Municipal government is not party politics...it is elected representatives from wards (areas) within the city or town.
