  • It happens, a guy I used to work with a guy who was taking Cisco (computer networking) classes at the local college, and the teacher of the class was literally one semester ahead of the students, taking the same series of classes at another school. Whenever the teacher couldn't answer something he'd come to me at work and ask me.
  • It would probably be best if they stuck to teaching what they knew. A lot of times they don't have a choice though in what they have to teach, or there was no one to teach the particular subject so they taught it to help out the school. They're probably working harder than teachers who know their stuff and have been doing the same thing every year.
  • I think those teachers should go back to school. Relearn what they never learned, or whatever they forgot. I would hope the teachers like their job and the subject they're teaching. It makes the students more interested if they know the teacher likes it first.
  • If they don't know the subject, they should not be teaching it. However, I've taught computer classes and not known the answer to several questions. For someone to know every detail about a subject is very difficult. Also, I've been placed in situations where I was supposed to be an "expert" by employers and new little to nothing about that specific topic. The sign of a good teacher, is that they will learn something and get back to you with an answer.
  • I believe the sign of a good teacher is realizing that learning is a life long process, acknowledgeing that we don't know it all. but How do we process and learn new information as educators? Does the educational system have a support base to find out answers when a teacher's ability and readiness level is challenged by students or other teachers? I am a new GED instructor and have learned that people respect you when you tell the truth. Remember the knowledge and wisdom we have yet to gain can be compared to a scratch in the universe. runningpuma@comcast.net
  • I don't think that just because someone is a teacher in a certain subject that qualifies them as an expert in the subject. Knowledge is infinite; no one can know EVERYTHING.
