Within the first few weeks of owning a new vehicle it is normal to smell a bit of burning since the factory puts a protective film coating on the engine. This burns off during normal use. However, if you are only smelling the burning going uphill then that doesn't sound right. If it is in fact the clutch it would mean it's slipping and therefore burning - meaning it's not adjusted correctly. Make sure there's no obstructions keeping the clutch pedal from coming out completely. If the problem continues into the 3rd month I would take it into a transmission shop for a second opinion. Keep in mind that every transmission shop I've been to has tried to a) scam me like I'm a naive idiot, b) allow parts to be stolen off my vehicle and not claim any responsibility or c) mislead me as to the real problem. What I'm saying is take everything you hear there with a grain of salt. I had one shop tell me I needed a new transmission...trying to turn a $100 service into a $4000 replacement. Turns out it was a scam.
