I read an article about a grossly overweight man improperly cared for in a mental asylum. He had an overeating disorder and no-one noticed him getting larger and larger. He was immobile and no-one took him to the toilet. After around 3 months or so he was rushed to hospital in a state of collapse and had to undergo emergency surgery to remove infected intestinal sections. His colon had become grossly enlarged and compacted with faeces and from what I remember of the article there was a picture of the removed length of colon almost as thick as a human leg.He died soon after the operation of septicemia which is where poisons and toxins enter the bloodstream and cause heart, liver or kidney failure. It is healthy to do a bowel movement at least once daily. Three times daily is not too many.Missing even one day is not good, and regular intervals of a week or more without passing stool risks bowel and colon cancer, and increased risk of cerebral stroke caused by straining to pass hard stool, as well as the risk of feacal compaction in the lower colon which left untreated is fatal.
