"Failed to lock vertical buffer error" when playing Counter Strike Source makes my game crash. Using GeForce 6600. How do I solve this problem?

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling? Do other Steam-based games work? Source-engine based games like HL2? Does it happen when the game is loading or while playing? Do some maps work better than others? If only certain maps crash, which ones?

HL2 crashes after a while, Main Counter strike source Maps(de_dust2, cs_italy) crashes, in fact I cannot access them at all. Loading screen just gets stuck. However CSS maps, like scoutsknives, ag_aim_texture(server own's maps) run fine. I am using a 1 yr old Pentium 4 computer. It started when I re installed Steam Games in August. On my previous computer, it was fine.
