  • If you feel that you won't be productive, don't go. If you are an active health risk to other employees, don't go. Otherwise, go.
  • Good health and being noncontagious.
  • in general, fever = contagious. so if you have fever, don't go. But, coughing, sneezing, runny nose can all spread germs. So, if you are doing prolific amounts of any of those, stay home. However, if you are feeling pretty good, are on the third day of antibiotics, or the fever has gone down, then feel free to return to work.
  • If your employer has given you humane terms of employment and will ensure you are paid for sick days, then take the day off. If they will not pay you, go in. If others get sick, the productivity will fall and maybe your employer will learn a lesson.
  • You are usually no longer contagious when you have gone 24 hours without a fever or have been on antibiotics for 48 hours - of course this is assuming an infection, not a virus. Antibiotics have little or no effect on a virus - aside from the psychological "I must be getting better, I am taking medicine" boost.
