The fires in California are linked to the fact that many of these areas have not burned recently. Fire is a normal part of the cycles in such areas. However, in recent decades we have been preventing the fires from burning through these areas thus allowing the fuel to build up to explosive levels. Now our attempts to control nature are coming back to bite us.

Upon further review.... One cannot blame the current spate of devastating fires in California on global warming. BUT....one of the predicted effects of climate change is that it will make brush fires/forest fires more intense and harder to contain. http://adcache.cycletrader.com/5/1/6/90010816.htm See, right-wing global-warming deniers...There are costs associated with NOT dealing with climate change. Would you rather pay to lower humanity's carbon footprint, or would you rather pay higher insurance rates and higher taxes for more firefighters?
