I didn't like living there. That's why I moved to Washington State which is the antithesis (hey not a terrible Scrabble word) of California.

Seriously, I hope all you SoCal Abers are keeping safe and away from the flames.

Except for 5 years (1965-1970) it is where I've lived since I was 3 so it is "home". In general life is easier here in terms of dealing with weather extremes. We don't have to worry about high heating bills in the winter or being snowbound or having to shovel the stuff before we can get to work. We don't have t contend with salting the snow to get it to melt, thereby rusting out the bottom of our cars. We don't have to deal with the extremes of humidity or spraying for bugs in the summer and inhaling that spray stuff..we don't have to drive on black ice and take our lives in our hand each time we get in the car. We don't have blizzards. I know we're in store for "the big one"..and we have lack of rain (but our southern states are facing crisis..North Carolina, Georgia..)..we have the current fires (some of which at least were due to arson :( ) but other areas deal with floodwaters, tornadoes, hurricanes. :)

As a SoCal native (and current resident), the main reasons include: ---Near perfect weather 250+ days per year ---A broad and varied economic base ---Tremendous (bordering on excessive) cultural diversity ---Numerous recreational options (you can surf and ski on the same day) ---Lots of hot bodies (of both genders) everywhere ---Did I mention the great weather? For me personally, reasons to live in SoCal include: ---It's a major center for automotive culture/industry ---The Lakers http://www.nba.com/lakers/ ---The Beach ---Tommy's http://www.originaltommys.com/ Yes, we have our brush fires every year. However, if you don't live in the mountainous areas, the fires are more of an air quality nuisance than a genuine danger. Similarly, earthquakes happen. But if you are in a building that's been built up to code or are outside, you're chances of injury/death are small. Most every other problem with LA (traffic, crime, high housing prices, social stratification, etc.) are endemic to large cities throughout the world. . . .

Because that's where all their "stuff" is.

Because it's on the West.
