There are plenty of honest Christianity-related questions in that category which generate discussion among Christians and don't provoke derogatory responses. If you specify which question(s) you're talking about, it would be easier to venture a guess about why they're getting the reactions you're seeing.

I don't know why. I see a whole lot of questions obviously geared against Christianity. Those questions generally have a whole bunch of points, and a whole lot of answers. Then I see a whole lot of the opposite type of questions; Christians asking atheists things. Doesn't matter if the question is sarcastic or not, it seems that if a Christian asks a question in the same way that some of the Atheists do on here they get downrated or flamed like crazy. I found too many Q/A geared in a mean fashion towards Christianity to count. Alot of them would have been flagged and removed as nonsense if they had been about atheists, but seems like more people on AB have fun flaming Christians. Personally, I see it as just another form of persecution, and move on. Even the Bible says we will be ridiculed for our beliefs. We will all see what's what in the end, wish we could just get along until then....

Kitt, why are you seeing this as a purely non-Christian against Christian issue? I will answer your question with a question- why is it so hard to ask a question without being so obviously hateful and derogatory towards Athiesm? Take a look at these questions posted against Atheists: "Are atheists just too selfish to believe in a greater being?" http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/436334 "Why are Atheists unwilling to admit that they worship science like how Christians worship god?" http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/429840 "Why do so many Atheists beleive that the Universe came into being solely by accident? Since this Universe has no purpose, couldn't we also reason that our existance has no purpose?" http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/424757 "Do atheists view morality as an enemy of free will?" http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/390452 "Why do Atheists view themselves as only flesh particles with a personality?" http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/419632 "Why do atheists use the excuse of "I've never felt God working in my life, why should I believe in Him?" when YOU have to ASK Him to work in your life?" http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/333653 "What positive social change has "atheism" ever inspired?" http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/415367 "Do atheists consider questioning evolution to be blasphemy?" http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/346994 "What would you do if, in the blink of an eye, hundreds of millions of people and every young child on earth disappeared into thin air? If you are an atheist, would this make you rethink your decision? Would you remember what the "crazy Christians" said?" http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/295105

(Comments wouldn't work so I'm posting as answer)I agree with both of you (Stableboy and Audio). I was never trying to say that Christians don't do the same thing! Infact that's why I started the question the way I did. I realize there are many Christians out there who not only LOVE shoving their religion down your throat, but also tear you and your beliefs apart at the seams. I don't believe that is a proper way to handle it at all, but I would never even try to deny that it's done by many Christians. I just don't understand why non Christians and their hatred and slamming of Christianity are tolerated so much more than a Christian who dares have something to say, whether good about their religion or negative about another. Non Christians can stand up all day long and talk crap on Christians/Christianity and we're just supposed to sit back and tollerate it. If we dare retaliate, or say something against them then we are horrible evil hateful people. I guess that's the point I was trying to make, in so many words.

You appear to be your own worst enemy, as is evidenced by your question...why is it so hard to ask a question without being so obviously hateful and derogatory towards _______________ .

I don't know either??? I always thought that the Christian God gave man (and Women too!) free choice. So if we have free choice then whether we believe or not and in what we believe should be free choice. I believe that if a diety wants us to believe and follow him/her/it/whatever...then scaring us with with threats of if you don't believe in me then "hell" will happen to you is counter-productive and not likely to attract long term and faithful converts. Or am I going to hell for that thought? Oh well....maybe I should get the T-shirt..."Hell - Been there done that, you're reading the T-shirt".

Because people are tired of hearing that they're going to hell for not being Christian. And they're tired of being told that they're being prayed for just because they don't agree and that they're wrong and the other person is right and how some people will not acknowledge fossils when they are so obviously there and insist on living in a mental darkness by claiming that evolution doesn't exist and people are also tired of being told that they have no rights because of religion.

I hope you will not be bored with my answer. To the asker I wish to say that this answer is what you are asking about. We need to understand the terms we use especially when addressing religion. Definition of Christianity: O.E. cristen, from L. Christianus, from Gk. christianos, from Christos (see Christ). First used in Antioch, according to Acts xi.25-26. Christianity "the religion of Christ," is from c.1303. Christian Science is from 1863. Largest Branches of Christianity in the U.S.: (Self-identification, Pew Research Council) People who identified their religious preference as Christian were asked about which branch of Christianity they belonged to. The 2005 Yearbook of American and Canadian Churches reported the following figures, based primarily on 2003 denominational reporting data: 1. Roman Catholic Church: 67.2 million. 2. Southern Baptist Convention: 16.4 million. 3. United Methodist Church: 8.2 million. 4. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: 5.5 million. 5. Church of God in Christ: 5.4 million. 6. National Baptist Convention USA: 5 million. 7. Evangelical Lutheran Church in America: 4.9 million. 8. National Baptist Convention of America: 3.5 million. 9. Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.): 3.2 million. 10. Assemblies of God: 2.7 million. When we say that Christians do this or the other, who are we referring to? To what branch of Christianity do they belong? We can not place all Christians in the same bag and label them in the same fashion. What unites Christianity is that we all believe in Christ. We each have our own Rites, Churches and Bibles. We can not speak of the Christian Bible as there are 32 of them. I believe that in honor of truth Christians should identify themselves regarding what Christian Group they belong to. I know and understand there is one Christian Group who always says "you're going to hell", but all Christians don’t say or mention it. I once had a terrible clash with a “Catholic priest” according to him he was “ordained a priest in the Vatican”. I began to question him about Rites, Theology and Dogma and he could not answer my questions. I then told him he was NOT a Roman Catholic priest. He admitted he was NOT ordained in the Latin Rite yet ordained in the Vatican. I explained to this man he was absolutely wrong as if not in the Latin Rite he could NOT have been ordained in the Vatican. This took about three hours but he finally admitted he was not a Roman Catholic nor a Catholic priest, that he was a Christian and that "they" had written the Catholic Catechism, the discussion began again until he admitted that “they” use the Catholic Catechism with certain amendments, thus he was an impostor. The site where all this happened allowed me the time and the space to clarify this matter. It was not AB. Said Christian Group bashes everyone, but then we Roman Catholics and other Christian Groups are bashed as it is believed we belong to one single church which is not true. I hope this has clarified the matter, this truly annoys me and unfortunately I have been the one that had to bring up this unpleasant matter. Best regards.
