There are economic, religious and discrimination factors. The Han Chinese are being payed to relocate to Tibet and open businesses. The Han are given favorable, preferential treatment by the government. The Tibetans do not slaughter the sheep & cattle they raise. They also do not save money but rather give large tithing to their religious leaders. The Hui Muslims have taken over the slaughtering job. Supply & Demand factors are kicking in. The Hui are now being offered more money from Hong Kong and Eastern China food processors. The East has more money and is willing to pay higher prices to the Hui. As the demand for meat in the East rises, the Hui opt to sell in bulk to the East, so they do. Consequently, the Tibetans cannot afford to buy the meat from the livestock they raise. They are being locked out economically and becoming a slave society. If you followed the details of the rioting, several of the first casualties were Hui Muslims. The Han were attacked next. If you have an interest, recommend being alert to Xinjiang, north of Tibet. The main residents, the Uyghurs really hate the Han people. The Uyghurs are more aggressive than the Tibetans. They are Muslim and get backing from groups in the middle East. China's problems may just be beginning.

Not really, since Tibetans aren't all dead yet, are they? But it is a form of ethnic suppression.

Yeah you westerners think Manchu conquered Tibet,China,Eastern Turkeystan and Mongolian so as Qing dynasty fell down everyone should be independent.I'll tell you from 19th century China and Qing became the same one because Manchu had assmilated into Chinese and they ruled the country together. As Manchu unified all these countries for more than 200 yeas the traditional borders had been broken for over 200 years.Many Han Chinese immigrated out of the Great Wall and Chinese were everywhere and there were also many other ehnic groups that have complicated relations with Hans and Uighurs and Mongolians and Tibetens.Uighurs and Tibetens especialy want Han Chinese out because of their independent culture But other ethnic groups except Turkic groups doesn't care about independent because they more infected by Han Chinese.They are mixed live now though conflict but cann't be separated just like the whites and blacks in the U.S.A. So who shall they decide the independence or dependence? You think Tibet is an independent country but I check many maps from Qing period and 1912-1949 issued by you western countries they put Tibet in China's territory only signed "Tibet" the same to Inner Mongolia and Eastern Turkeystan and Manchuria.You can have a look at wikimedia of "Qing Dynasty" "Republic of China". It means the world acknowledged Tibet belonged to China.
