Does anyone know if there are doctors that will do Gastric Bypass surgery for low income people who have State Med-i-cal insurance. I am very overweight and am miserable and cant lose weight on my own. I am 5 ft 4 at 265 lbs.

Depending the state you live - I believe there are doctors that will take Low Income insurances such as medicade (a Michigan insurance). I would ask your family doctor or your case worker about it.

Yes, Medi-Cal (California) does cover gastric bypass surgery. However, you probably won't find a care provider who will accept it, because the reimbursement rate is less than half of the actual cost of the surgery. Contact your provider for more information.

I doubt they'd do it if that's all you weigh! Seems like they will only do it if you weigh way more than that! I'd like to get one too though!

There is also that new procedure, the lap band. It does the same thing but in a much simpler way. My friend had her stomach stapled and wrapped, it was quite a serious surgery. She wishes the lap band had been around, she would have had that instead.
