Some. My sister married a Jewish man and raised her sons in Judism, wanting her sons to be good men, as their father is. It is a very interesting belief system. Very old. Very involved and involving. I have often thought that if I were to ever be the kind of person to join a church, I would join the Jewish faith, although I can't 'legally' do that since I wasn't born to it. And I don't believe in religion!

I know very little about Judaism. I used to think that Judaism was a religion based upon the Old Testament of what became the Christian Bible. I now know that this is only partially true. I know that male Jews wear a skull cap, the name and purpose of which, I don't know, in the Synagogue. I know that the God of the Jews is the same entity as the God of Christians and Muslims. I know that Judaism, for reasons that I cannot envisage, is the most universally hated religion in the world, although recent events may be putting Islam on a par. I know that Judaism involves male circumcision as some sort of badge of office, which seems rather strange - I don't understand why any particular part of the body which God created should need to be surgically removed. Sorry, that sums it up.

Aside from the fact that Jews celebrate Hannukah (is that the right spelling) instead of Christmas, I don't know anything else about Judaism. I also know that Jews have been mocked in the past for their beliefs. But then again, it's not something about the religion. Oh yes! I've heard of Bar Mitzvah and Yom Kippur. But I don't what they are. I hope I don't get DRed for my ignorance. Even trolls hate negative points, you know.

I know quite a bit about Judaism, considering that I'm not Jewish. I know that the Torah is read in its entirety every year, and the cycle begins and ends on Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year). I know that around Rosh Hashanah every year is Yamim Noraim ending with Yom Kippur (the day of atonement). I've celebrated one of the nights of Seder (Passover) with one group of friends. They were nice enough to let me say a verse in English and I could take one sip between each verse rather than the whole glass of red wine, as I would have been drunk in short order. With another, I celebrated the fourth night of Hanukkah. I know that the Talmud is studied, debated, and added to. I know that Yahweh is seen as exclusively monotheistic, and His name is never spoken. Judaism has strict dietary laws for Kosher food which includes the origin, health, slaughter, and preparation of the food. Judaism follows over 600 (I think 613) from the Torah. Those laws govern civil, interpersonal, and ritual behavior. I know that women are seen as unclean during their menses and during and after childbirth. Boys are circumcised on their 8th day of life by a Rabbi in a ritual called brit milah, but more commonly called bris. Jewish boys come of age (are spiritually responsible for upholding the Law) at age 13 in a ritual known as a bar mitzvah. Some Jews hold a similar ritual/party for girls at age 12 called a Bat Mitzvah (sometimes Bas Mitzvah). Oh, and Judaism is about how to live according to the Law of Yahweh in this life. The focus is not on the afterlife, or your destination there. Satan never rebelled against Yahweh, and works for Yahweh as His temptor. The beliefs regarding the Messiah are nothing like Christianity. There is no belief in a virgin birth, death by sacrifice, or atonement for original sin. It is all about establishing a literal kingdom of Yahweh on this earth. Judaism has several divisions, the Orthodox being the most strict. Orthodox Jews conduct their rituals and prayer in Hebrew. There is mainstream Judaism, reform Judaism, etc. I do know enough to realize that Messianic Judaism is not Judaism, but ethnic Jews who are Christian in religion. I've been to a Jewish wedding, and know that the groom smashes a wine glass. There is also traditional dancing in which he is carried around on a chair. Since I don't understand Hebrew, I know very little else about what went on that differed from a mainstream American wedding. There was a bar, a DJ, etc. Well, I'll leave it at that. I know a lot of other things...

I do not know a lot but I did read somewhere that Jews generally prefer to be thought of as a family as opposed to being thought of as a religion, a sect, a nation, or an ethnic group. I do not know how true this is.

As a committed Christian, I have learnt a lot about Judaism, as it was practiced in the Tanakh/Old Testament. I know that Abraham is the father of the Jewish people, and it was to Abraham that God promised family, land, a nation and that through the Jews the world would be blessed. I know that God worked His purposes through the Jewish people to prepare for the coming of the Messiah who would fulfil the promise to Adam that one day One would come who would step on the serpent's head (wipe out sin). I know that God revealed Himself through Moses and brought out the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt, and that He promised He would be their God and they would be His people. To Moses, God gave the Ten Commandments, His blueprint for the People of God. He then led them into the land with Joshua as their leader. I know that though the people of Israel kept on turning their backs on their promise, God was faithful to them and always rescued them. Even after they were taken into exile, God brought back a remnant and the land of Israel was rebuilt. This was the time of the prophets, many of whom spoke of the imminent coming of the Messiah. How am I going, nevets? LOL

Judaism is the life-giving root of Western Civilization. Our ethics, culture, laws and understanding of God as Creator are gifts of Judaism.

I know that Yom Kippur totally Pwns Lent. 40 Days versus 1 day? Cha. That's a pretty simple decision.
