I've gained the ability to read deeply, and it took me quite a bit before I could understand this question. Sorry, it must be me. And yes, reading is central to who I am: an editor/proofreader.

GREAT question. I think the "what" I have gained has assisted the "who" I have become to appreciate things more and value my possessions. It has also helped me realize that I have to work hard in order to get to where I want to be, and the "who" I am now is a little more comfortable asking for help than I was before.
