G'day Health Freak, Thank you for your question. It sounds like a panic attack. Panic attacks occur when the fight or flight response is triggered but there is no stimulus. I would speak to your doctor about it asap. I have attached sources for your reference. Keithold's answer sounds right. I think it is panic attacks too. You should definitely check with your health care professional to be sure though. Panic attacks can be very debilitating. They can absolutely wake you from a sound sleep. There are many effective treatments and medication that can help you deal with panic attacks. It is a terrible feeling and can be very scary. Don't wait any longer....there is no reason to feel weird, or embarrassed about feeling this way....go see your doctor, he/she can help! It could be panic attacks, but if it occurs mainly in your sleep, it could be sleep paralysis, a condition in which you cannot seem to move or breathe. It's frightening but harmless. Check out the following links to see if this sounds like you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis http://www.stanford.edu/~dement/paralysis.html

Drugs and surgery are your last resort. Why take a pill for the rest of your life when the pill just "bandaids the symptoms" so to speak. You need to seek out the root cause of the symptoms. Remove the root and the symptoms disappear. As a chiropractor, I'm certain you have a misaligned vertebra in your neck that is the root cause of your many symptoms. I'd go to a chiropractor first. An x-ray of your neck will be taken and the root cause in your neck revealed. Follow the chiropractors plan to restore your health. Good luck.
