Yes, she is, but it's only Season 5 of American Idol! The other winners, as well as the talented runners-up, have the rest of their lifetime career to get the visibility that gains the Academy's attention for a nomination. I think Carrie Underwood just won a couple of CMT (Country Music Television) awards recently. While it's absolutely no comparison - not even close to a Grammy for status or recognition - it ain't so bad really, considering she was just last season's American Idol winner.

Not anymore. When Kelly won her two Grammy awards at the 2006 ceremony (Best Pop Vocal Album for Breakaway and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Since U Been Gone") she was the first idol to win the award. She had been nominated in 2004 for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Miss Independent, but lost to Christina Aguilera's Beautiful. Since then, Carrie Underwood has taken home two awards, both at the 2007 ceremony. She won Best New Artist and Best Female Country Vocal Performance for "Jesus Take the Wheel". Although they have never won, both Ruben and Fantasia have been nominated for Grammy Awards. Fantasia was nominated for 3 Awards in 2006: Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for "Free Yourself", Best R&B Album for Free Yourself and Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance for Summertime. Additionally, her song "Free Yourself" was nominated for Best R&B song, but because this is a songwriters award, Fantasia herself was not nominated. Ruben Studdard was nominated for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "Superstar" in 2004.
