  • Look at the merchandise. You can use your peripheral vision to look at people without them realizing you are looking at them.
  • It sounds like it could be social anxiety disorder. I have that & it really sux. The only thing that's helped for me is anti-depressants.

  • Look at the alley where your you can find things that you want to buy. The store is not a place to stare at people.
  • Look confidentally at the person for a short stint and if you feel like it, nod or say hi and move on.
  • I used to have the same experience, but i decided that i wanted to look, and HAVE confident in myself. So i've decided, whenever i come into the presence of strangers, i will cast my eyes over the crowd; not necesarily making eye contact, but showing that i'm not trying to hide my image.
  • I use to be like that when younger but then I realized that looking with down cast eyes gave some people the impression that I was a push over or I was trying to steal something. So I figured, I rather have them think I'm staring or giving dirty looks than to be thought a thief or a sucker. I hope this works.
