But not TOO hard. But, yes, it HURT. BAD. He even made my elder sister(who weighs around 45-50 KGs)stand on my stomach while I was lying down! Isnt this too advanced for only the first day? Is he fake?

Sounds like a real bargain. The guy you hired is obviously an expert. Where can I find one like him in Chicago? How will it work if I don't have a 45kg sister? When do I get to punch his stomach? In fact, when do YOU get to punch his stomach. Has anyone pointed out that what he might claim to be doing has little, if anything, to do with the basic tenet of karate. The idea should be to avoid being struck, not posing as a target for some sadist you picked up off the street. Here's a hint: Stomach muscles aren't developed by being bruised and strained. You have to take it from there, sparky.

Although it is still possible that he may have some skill as a martial artist, your description is that of an unskilled instructor ... he may know something (doubts) but he clearly does not know how to teach. As a beginner, he should have you start at the beginning with such boring yet crucial stuff as how to kneel, sit, breathe, etc., then move on to numerous stances and how to step from any one stance to any/all of the others ... strikes and counters should not even be discussed untill a foundation for them has been well laid. Since you usually need to be standing and stepping in order to punch, the stance & step lessons should always come before the punch lessons.

Don't walk from this guy, run...

I think that I'd help pay your fee...if I get to watch tomorrow's session.

This guy sounds like a grade A tool, even in full contact combat sports like boxing we don't practice this full stop, let alone as a first lesson. I can understand condition drills, learning to take a hit is important because it's all to easy to exicute your moves while pretending to be hit but when you get rattled and then learn to fire straight back that is important but to do this first lesson?, my advice is to do your research, find a good insturctor with good credentials and reputation, some one who walks the walk. As for this guy I would love to give him a lesson and I woul'nt charge either it would be a labour of love :-)

Ugh! You hired this guy without asking for proof of his ability. Ask for referances and prof of ranking. A certificate alone is not proof. They can be printed up at any print shop. But sounds like he may have found a living punching bag to test his budding skills on. His name isn't Ashida Kim is it?
