  • Grab some sleeping bags and jump on the trampoline in them.
  • play board games with them
  • What age range? Baking and making other tasty treat is fun. Fingerpainting/painting can be fun. Other crafts are usually fun. http://www.allfreecrafts.com/kids/index.shtml Builing forts inside a bedroom will alost never fail, grab some extra pillows, blankets and a chair or two to prop things up, if the kids are old enough, maybe some tacks. Scrapbooking might be fun for older children who might have thier own pictures.
  • If you want to stay indoors, there's always fun, easy activities like treasure hunts. There can be a simple prize at the end, such as candy or some other treat, or even a pass on a chore. As stated in another post, cooking is also probably one of the best ways to spend time with children. There's also crafts projects like painting or drawing, which can be done again and again in many different forms. I am very artistic and my younger brothers (10 and 7) particularly like animals, so I sometimes pull out our animal encyclopedia and give them an impromptu drawing lesson which they really enjoy. Mini science experiments are also great, especially for boys. One great website is listed here. http://www.kids-science-experiments.com/index.html Finally, if you're raising little scholars, there's also reading circles, which are quiet and can take up a considerable amount of time. To keep everyone in the family reading, you just turn off all the electronic distractions and sit down together at the table or in the livingroom. Everyone reads their own book for a designated period of time, and afterwards, share a few details about what they've read (and even what they have learned from it. It can be fun and younger reads are often excited by the independence of reading their own book and leading the discussion. If the kids are writers in the making, you can give them cool writing prompts that often turn into great stories. The stranger the better. Some of my ideas in the past: You recently lost your shoe. Write a story explaining what happened to the shoe - the strange places it may have gone and the people who found it. How did it finally get back to you? Write a story about the make-believe animal that lives in your bathtub? What is it? How did it get here? If you have a lot of time and are very creative, there's also organizing little shows - that can be dancing, a short play or scene from a favorite show, or a song. Often, if you give the kids the initial idea, they'll run with it.
  • make a craft for the hoildays coming up. I have a daycare at my home. We will have a safe city class to learn about safety and not to talk to stranges. • When I have my nieces, we make feeders for the wildlife and hang them outside (like decorations). We make fleece scarves and mittens, finish any sewing projects/lessons we have, etc. (I give them sewing lessons year-round anyway.) We even paint, make up games, write stories and plays, we act out plays, do cheers, dance, etc. We have a lot of fun together!!! There is a LOT to do when the weather is bad. You can turn a lesson about anything into a game. If there's snow, but the temperature is bearable, we'll play outside.
  • I always find cooking is a good one. I also have 4 kids and they love it. After that they help clean up and we sit at the table and admire our work. Keeps them happy for a few hours!
  • I was looking for something to do with the kids when they're at home and stumbled across ScribblePress.com. They have custom books called Scribble Cueprints, where you fill-in-the-blanks of the story, and illustrate it yourself. They have lots of different subjects, from “My Vacation” to “I Am a Rockstar.” It’s a GREAT activity for kids and adults alike – we had so much fun filling them out together! I hope this helps!
