  • Seems a better choice than Henry Kissinger. Oh god, what were they thinking with him?
  • I think it's fantastic. Hopefully people will start to realize that when 95% of scientists and political activists say something is an issue, it really is an issue.
  • I think they need to re-evaluate how this prize is awarded...
  • Well someone had to win it , at least G.W what's his name didn't + 5
  • Erm - I don't really understand. What's he won it for? Was it the global warming thing? Fair enough, but what's it got to do with peace?
  • I think its GREAT! It's a formal acknowledgement of the value of his contribution against 'Global Warming.'
  • Al Gore only won half the prize - the other half went to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). I see nothing wrong with this - I've pasted a list of reasons for awards since 1997 below. Some are vague, some are specific - this year's prize could maybe be compared to Médecins Sans Frontières' win in 1999 - that doesn't mention "peace". And also last years win for Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank... that's a purely economic reason. 2007 - "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change" 2006 - "for their efforts to create economic and social development from below" 2005 - "for their efforts to prevent nuclear energy from being used for military purposes and to ensure that nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is used in the safest possible way" 2004 - "for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace" 2003 - "for her efforts for democracy and human rights. She has focused especially on the struggle for the rights of women and children." 2002 - "for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development" 2001 - "for their work for a better organized and more peaceful world" 2000 - "for his work for democracy and human rights in South Korea and in East Asia in general, and for peace and reconciliation with North Korea in particular" 1999 - "in recognition of the organization's pioneering humanitarian work on several continents" 1998 - "for their efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in Northern Ireland" 1997 - "for their work for the banning and clearing of anti-personnel mines"
  • Great! He shares the Prize with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Gore http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intergovernmental_Panel_on_Climate_Change I think he did a lot of think to bring the issue of Global Warming in public consciousness, particularly in the US, but also at an international level.
  • My understandng of it is that many, or most, wars are due to lack of resources. When there is no food or water in one place, they will go to another place to find it. The invaded place wants to defend it's resources and a war follows. If we can avoid, or reduce the impact of climate change, we can avoid wars. Seems to be a very good reason for the prize.
  • He didn't win the Nobel Peace Prize..... he was nominated for it.
  • It shows how cheap the prize has gotten. And from the inventer of dynamite. Of course Carter shared one with Arafat, so how can this surprise you. al Gore bought one, and it will get him nothing.
  • Not bad for 'inventing' global warming!
  • I think it's a disgrace! He hasn't done anything to promote peace in my opinion... I think this is also evidence that there are a bunch of washed up hippies in control of the prize, and had nothing better to do with their time. This is only an opinion, and anyone who downrates me for it, can fall off of a cliff, hitting 10,000 branches all the way down, until crashing into the ground, only to realize that it was quicksand, and finally be engulfed in a pit of sand for eternity, and I wouldn't give two pesos (I don't actually care that much, but I think you get the point).
  • giving him the nobel when there are so many more deserving people out there is an outrage because global warming is one of the biggest scare tactic scams going
  • I think its laughable.
  • I think it is fantastic. A lot of ignorant people think the prize is for peace but that is only one aspect of the prize. There is also medicine, science, etc. Al Gore made us aware of our sick world. He is my hero. The ignorant ones ... have you read their answers? They need to sit down and read a book (if they can read) on GW. I would wager that half of them have not even taken the time to investigate Al Gore's claims. Oh well, they say ignorance is bliss!
  • Why the hell not? If they gave the Peace Prize to Yassir Arafat, who was a Palestinian terrorist... Why not Al? If they gave the Peace Prize to Jimmah Carter, who was the most moronic and ineffective President we've had in the last 100 years... Why not Al? In my opinion, this person deserves it more than Al.
