I guess since I have been a 16 year old girl on a motorcycle with a fella that I ended up marrying, I'd have a hard time teling my daughter "no". But I would make sure what kind of rider he was, does he have a license, will they both wear proper safety gear, did he go through Motorcycle Riders training course and where were they going? THen it might be okay:-)

As long as she wasn't riding off with him to elope, then I wouldn't have a problem, ensuring that the driver was responsible and that they both wore sufficient safety gear. I don't care if wearing a helmet is embarrassing. She wouldn't be going anywhere if she didn't have one on :)

it would depend on who that person was, if I trusted them, where they were going, how frequently it would happen, etc. But as a general rule, not until she was 18. The reason? I've known people that have been killed while on a motorcycle. I would also take a guess that the person she would want to get on a motorcycle with was probably fairly young. By this I don't mean all teenagers are bad drivers, but it is hard to tell who is and who isn't, and the likelihood of surviving a bike crash is significantly less then a car crash. Plus, a lot of motorcycle crashes wouldn't have been prevented even if the motorcycle driver was the best in the world, as they are often hit by cars.

No. But if you just say "I forbid it!" Then she is going to do it anyway. Instead, I'd find info on the web about motorcycle deaths, including really gory pictures, and have her read them. I'd explain why cars have crush zones, roll-over protection, air bags, and seat belts. And that motorcycles have none of these things.

My daughter wouldn't get on a motorcyle 'til shes providing a roof over her own head. What she does after she's moved out is up to her, but as long as she lives with me, there's no way in hell shes getting on a motorcyle with anyone unless it happens to be her father.

If they were competent and she wore a helmet, then yes. If it were one of her friends with a crotch rocket three sizes too big for him and/or a total jack-off that liked hitting 11,000 RPM in first gear for the "cool" noise, she would never see him again period. I used to ride on the back of a motorcycle at a FAR younger age. It is as safe as riding in a car. It's safer in that you likely won't be out in bad (accident inducing) weather anyways, but that is mitigated by the increased severity of consequences if an accident DOES occur.

I don't have a 16-year-old daughter (and probably never will), but if yours is wearing a helmet and safety gear, I'd be happy to give her a ride on the back of my motorcycle. I've *never* had an at-fault accident outside of a parking lot and I haven't had a traffic ticket in 15 years. OTOH, I'm in my 40s, so I doubt she'd want to...;-D...

It would really depend on who this person is, where they were going, and at what time they were leaving. The answer would usually be no.
