I would imagine that their real underlying view is that they are against illegal immigration.
-
Their underlying view is that it is important to obey laws, that laws are there for a reason, that a society without laws and an insistance that people obey them would be chaotic. This probably lends itself to those same people holding dear the view that truth and honesty are also very important.

Obviously not everyone who uses the term "illegal" immigration will fall into this category, but I think that the underlying reason is that many people are prejudiced. I've heard people rail about "illegals" who live in areas where there is very little immigration at all much less illegal immigrants. It's a hot button topic her in the US right now. Many people have very strong opoinions about it. It's a serious problem that needs addressing, but simply closing the borders and deporting everyone isn't the answer. We need immigrants to make up the huge difference in the baby boomer population and the succeeding populations that will have to carry the burden of caring from them. It's an enormous gap that can only be filled with immigrants. We need a way for people to come here legally and pay into the system and become contributing members to our society. We can hardly expect that to happen when such a terrible stigma is placed on them before they even get here.

I'm against illegal immigration, like Meow said ... and that is REALLY the case.
-
Its pretty obvious.....if a person is in America legally. they are legal citizens. If a person is in America, without being nationalized, they are here, illegally. Simple. there are no underlying views or opinions here. Its cut and dry.
-
The underlying view is they oppose people breaking the law. Those in favor of equal rights for illegal immigrants tend to refer to illegal and legal immigrants as one group. They make arguments like "we are all immigrants." Although it is true that we are all immigrants (or the offspring of immigrants), we were not all illegal immigrants. On the other hand, those against given rights to illegal immigrants see illegal and legal immigrants differently. They are not opposed to immigration. They are only opposed to illegal immigration. Thus, ommitting the word "illegal" would inaccurately reflect their view. It should be noted that there obviously is a small minority of people who are against all immigration. These are people like white supremacists. This group does not differentiate between legal and illegal immigrants.

Exactly! It's like when they say "We welcome people of all races, however we do need to discuss the immigration problem" Just by linking immigration and 'proble' they are setting their agenda. Racist scum!

I am a complete supporter of legal immigration, a huge critic of the immigration system, and an opposition of illegal immigration. No viel.
