  • I would be professionally honest. I have had friends take great advantage of situations like this and it cost me time, money and a job in one case. For unassociated reasons we are not even friends anymore. It is your integrity at stake here and that will follow you forever.
  • I couldn't lie about it. I would put the best spin on it that stayed within the truth, but it would have to be the truth.
  • client was unreasonable, friends should stick together
  • I would tell him the truth, but also try to give my friend's reasons for messing up. My closest friends are the kind of people who would fess up themselves anyway.
  • For my best friend? I'd say the client was unreasonable and that they will be crawling back soon after they realize our competitors are utter failures.
  • I could not lie. It's SO not worth it - plus, the client will likely talk to your boss anyway and tell the truth. I would try to spin it and throw some valid reasons why my friend screwed up (if there were some) but I have learned hard lessons in my life and have protected many friends. It's never worth it - if you lie, and your boss finds out, you could lose your own job.
