If you mean helping out in emergencies, then the Watchtower society is always ready to help, like when the storm hit New Orleans. And what is interesting in this case, is that MOST J.W's resident in N.O. were not in town when it hit. They were attending a regular convention 300 miles away. No!, they did not claim that God protected them, but WHAT a coincidence. But if you mean giving handouts to people who continue to waste their meagre resources on drugs and smoking, then No. The Salvation Army does this, and the result is that some people are still in the soup line after many years AND STILL SMOKING. It is better to give a man a fishing line than a fish on a plate.

most people don't know how the watchtower society reacts whenever disasters strike because they are not ones to be tooting their horns like other religious organizations or the like. in most cases these donations will remain anonymous. the bible encourages us to help our neighbors without making a show of what we do. however, in many cases unbeknowest to the public, the Jehovah's Wtnesses are the first to reach disaster ridden areas to help and support whatever work has to be done. since the mid to late 70's watchtower put in place a committee at headquarters that specifically handles matters dealing with disasters. we are ready to go at the drop of a hat, no other organization can claim to do what we do. the true religion approved by the Almighty God Jehovah would stand out and always set an example for the entire world community.

Yeah, I can attest to that. I was on of the thousands of witnesses that travel down to do relief work with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in Louisiana and Florida. Witnesses came from around the country as far away as Seattle took leave of their jobs took their families and went to help those with damaged or destroyed homes and lives. I decided to take a leave of college and go myself. ( Some of the work was actually recorded on youtube at http://youtube.com/watch ) I got rode in a van with six other Witnesses (that I had never met before) the whole 24hour trip to southern Florida. But the only thing was we had now were to stay while we were down there. But when one of the sisters down in Florida heard we were coming she gave us the keys to her house, told us to used what ever we needed and she went and stayed at one of the kingdom hall (sleeping in a sleeping bag every night for three weeks.) She wouldn't even give us her name, because she said she wanted all praise to go to Jehovah, and didn't want us telling everybody about her like she did something so special.
