Whenever anything like this comes up I think, "Who are these men cheating with?" and the only answer I can come up with is women.
-
Not really sure about that one. While I would never condone cheating in a relationship and think it is cruel because it breaks a very sacred trust the two partners put in each other, I think men and women cheat for different reasons. The majority of males do it because of sex. Either their partner is no longer giving them as much as their body craves and desires or They no longer find their partner sexually attractive any longer. They are both very poor reasons for cheating but that seems to be the 2 main causes from what I have seen of men being unfaithful. For the majority of women the reason is more emotional than sexual. Most women cheat because their partner has long ago stopped making them feel loved wanted and desireable as a woman, or the man in their life is physically mentally and/or verbally abusive to them. So in these cases the reasons for cheating are more out of emotional needs that aren't being fulfiled byt their man as opposed to physical needs in the case of men who cheat. In either case cheating is wrong and never justifiable.

I think it used to be truer before (majority men as the cheater) and now it has unfortunately evened out more.

becuase it makes the females feel a lot better if they can lay the blame at a males feet ...and why not we get the blame for almost everything else so one more ain't going to make any more difference to our position

I think perhaps this veiw is based on a sort of human nature, where as, males (in most species) are generally the leaders of a pack or family and may have multiple mates and females generally stick with this same alpha male. It would certanly make men an easier target for infidelity. Then again, it must always be remembered that statistics can only tell us what happened last time. In my experiance women seem to be less faithfull than men, they just don't act on those feelings as much as men do.

very good point. for every man that cheats he needs someone to cheat with. sometimes men get a bad rap.

In history (before woman's liberation), men cheat. Men cheat after marriage before they were not allowed to divorce. Men got married young before they have experienced 20 women before marriage. So men had sex with different women by the way of cheating. In modern day, many men still have extra marital affairs. Only 43% of men admitted. Please understand that it is in the DNA men have to sleep with different women all their life, from 15 years old to I don't know when, whether they are married or had children. Women, once find "the right man" and have children, generally speaking, usually concentrate on raising children and their everyday life. Most people assume the man was the culprit in a failed marriage because MOST MARRIAGES WERE RUINED BY MEN'S INFIDELITY. The study shows men often deny and abuse their innocent partner after their infidelity were found out.

It is a stereotype probably based on the fact that in the past, cheating for men was more socially accepted and more open than for women, because if women cheated there were far greater consequences for them. In my experience in the modern world, women are as likely if not more likely to cheat than men.
