If it IS true, why would you want to be in Texas? Normally, people who can't get a gun permit have a criminal record. You want to live somewhere where criminals can get guns more easily?
-
I hope not.

Not true, there are still federal laws he has to follow. Felons can not purchase or possess a firearm and people convicted of any sort of domestic violence can't either. I'm a firm believer in gun rights, but I know certain people should not carry.

I have never had any sort of permit to own a firearm. I bought my sidearm then much later on got my CHL. As my name indicates I live in Texas, but forgive me I don't know what permit you are talking about.
-
Of course not. The Governor of Texas, like all Governors, are not part of the legislature. Thus, they cannot pass laws.
-
Maybe we should just let them secede.

OhLook is right. The governor cannot pass a law, only the legislature can do that. He may ask them to do so, but they are not obligated even to bring it up in the House or the Senate. He does have the power of veto over any bill he doesn't like. But in Texas the Lieutenant Governor has far more power than the Governor. The only restriction on gun ownership is the required background check. Underage children and convicted felons are denied the right to buy or own firearms. In short, you can OWN a gun without a permit; but you need a permit to carry or to use it. And handguns are regulated differently from shotguns and rifles. For long guns there is no background check. More than half the 50 States have Concealed Carry laws. Just pick a State. Try Vermont; there are no laws there regulating guns at all.
