A lot of drugs are ototoxic (they damage the ears). When taken in excess they can sometimes permanently damage the ears. Aspirin can do this. There are little hairs on your cochlea (the part of the inner ear you hear with) called cilia, these hairs move back and forth and have electrical charges. These hairs can become damaged resulting in permanent loss, or just irritated causing temporary loss until the offending drug is out of the system and the ear has healed.
