My Philips Magnavox TV/VCR combo plays back tapes with a blue screen, and no picture at all. The audio works fine, and the TV does too. What's wrong and how can I fix it?

The reason you get the blue screen is because the picture quality is so degraded that the TV/VCR perceives it as static. If it worked fine and it's not working suddenly, my guess would be the tape is the issue. Try a tape you know is good and see if it plays. If the issue is the player, you can try adjusting the tracking and cleaning the heads. Other than that, I would say you would have to have it fixed professionally.
