If you find a question that you wish to respond to, does that not indicate that the question has some merit and thus deserves some points just as you expect points for a good answer?

oh yes. i always give maximum points to questions that i answer. i mean, if i don't find it worthy then why would i bother to answer it? =)

Yes. I respond to some that don't deserve points and let my opinion be known but the vast majority of time if I answer, I rate too.

Makes sense to me but so many don't give a hoot about the question. All they care about is writing their answers and going off somewhere else. I think it's only good manners and shows appreciation for someone that took the time to think and write a question you cared enough about to respond.

Certainly. And I also generally give those points. The only thing is that I don't bother giving points to askers who don't seem to have any kind of interest in my answers. For this reason, I generally don't give points to the question before I get some kind of feedback on my answer, that *could* come from the asker, that is, either a comment from the asker, or points which are not mentioned in a comment from another user.
