  • Its an element. Its safe because your body can't absorb it because it has a low solubility. You should check it out on Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barium_sulfate
  • It's a radioactive metal! Run like crazy!! Ok, just kidding. It is a radioactive element, but in the small dose and limited duration you'll be exposed to, the risk is not a cause for concern. The barium is very diluted, it's sort of like getting an X-ray: yes, your body is subjected to a little bit of radiation, but only for a brief time.
  • It is safe - it's been used for years. I once had an x-ray of my upper/lower GI tract and had to drink it. It wasn't too tasty, but it passed without incident.
  • The stuff doesn't taste pleasant, it's like chalk flavoured milkshake, and there's a lot of it to drink! Though sometimes if you have a barium swallow they flavour it apparently. You will probably have white poop afterwards too, just so you're prepared. It isn't dangerous unless your body absorbs it, and barium meal (bleargh!) is not going to be absorbed by your body. Good luck! :-)
  • Better late than never here. Please read this article: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/109462.php
  • I clogged the toilet at work, because of barium. I got constipated, then when I did go, it was so heavy it wouldn't flush. I'm so embarrassed, a few people knew I had a test with barium. They will know if was me who clogged the toilet with white poop.
