  • No, but you are going to have to be very, very careful.
  • No, as long as you are taking them only as prescribed, and ONLY if you really need them. I agree with Antigone - you must be VERY careful.
  • Be very, very careful my friend! You may want to have a person who is not a recovering addict hang on to them and give them to you as needed/prescibed,also keep your sponser informed and make sure he/she is available at all times!
  • Well, if you're in or were in a 12-step program, you know the answer to that. No drugs, period. Only you know whether it's a good idea. The risk isn't in abusing the Percocet; you've taken measure s against that, and good for you for doing it. The real risk is reintroducing the addictive desire for drugs, and that can last far beyond your prescription. If you think things are under control, you'll probably be fine. Just make sure you reality-check yourself frequently and utilize your support system. Good luck with your neck.
  • yes my friend...a drug is a drug...the only diffrence is that one is leagal and the other isin't. Just be careful and try not to abuse them....I was hooked on Meth (got it off the streets) and Morphine(got it from my doc). =)
  • Hi your doctor for you prescribed a narcotic analgesic. When you sure that you do not want to get addicted again to narcotic drugs better don't use them. Ask from your physician to prescribe a non-narcotic analgesics in little grown doses. There exists much from them and they are not addicting. For example rizetriptan or sumatriptan (and more and more) they give good effect and are not addicting. This will make fore you sure for don't repetition and comeback to same conditions. Wish you good health and regards. Her follows little information about Percocet: “Oxycodone, 14-hydroxydihydrocodeinone, is a semi synthetic opioid analgesic which occurs as a white, odourless, crystalline powder having a saline, bitter taste. The molecular formula for oxycodone hydrochloride is C18H21NO4•HCl and the molecular weight 351.83.” (here it show that it is an analgesic narcotic.)
  • Talk to the doctor that prescribed your medicine about your problem if he still insists on prescribing you the medicine then he must honestly believe that the benefits of using this medication is worth any ill effects.
  • Not the same but can often be the cause of relapse. Good Luck
  • That depends entirely on you. Have support readily available, keep a journal and know yourself. If you feel yourself "needing" another pill be fore it is time or an extra dose or feel like you can't live without them, take advantage of that support. If you think it is a high risk venture ofr you, talk to your doctor about an alternative drug.
  • Congrats on your many days free of drugs. I, too, am in recovery. I, too, have herniated discs in neck and back. I do not know whether you attend 12 step, i have to keep current on meds with another drug-free addict, attend meetings etc. I am taking paracetamol and 10 mgs codeine as reqired. It still does something to the way i think and of course it changes how i feel. Less pain. If you are taking it as prescribed then, no, that is not using. However, only you know if you are relapsing. This NA pamphlet has helped me. It is here if you want to read it. http://www.na.org/pdf/litfiles/us_english/Booklet/In%20Times%20of%20Illness.pdf
  • No but you can easily become addicted to percocet. I take a drug called Ultram ER. It is a non-narcotic but it binds to your opiate receptors in your brain to give you the pain relief of a narcotic. It helps me alot.
  • hey there. congrats to you for staying clean for 10years. i recently came off prescribed meds that i was on for 20 years including percocet, morphine, the patch, all these for legimate reasons. in answere to your question, yes in my opinion a drug is a drug. i too have herniated discs. i now am going the natual way as much as i can. ask a physio about slow muscle stretching. massage if you can afford it. lots and lots of prayers. try ice ten to twenty minutes on. if that is not for you. try heat and a light massage wrap for your neck all this might help. it did for me. i am not a professional. but all the best to you
  • Congrats for being clean for so many years. Percocet can be very addictive. Yes any of those pain pills the doctors dish out are as bad as the street drugs. You might want to look into alternative ways to manage your pain. Good luck
  • You are wise to be questioning, and if you are asking you already know the answer. However, if the percocets are providing adequate pain control as prescribed, i don't think you have anything to worry about. It's that "extra one" here and there, leading to more use and different meds that can become worrisome. Because you are aware you have an addictive personality, you are aware you may have a battle to fight. You are going into pain control with eyes wide open. I commend you for that! Good job! You do deserve pain control even though you've been addicted in the past. Don't let yourself hurt for the sake of history. Good luck to you!
  • congrats on your period of sobriety! it is not the same as "using" if you are taking them as prescribed. just keep your guard up. people with prior substance abuse issues are at greater risk when taking addictive prescription drugs. however, you also have a slight advantage because of the fact that you have experienced addiction and can be more aware of how you are reacting to the drug and whether you are taking too much of it. keep your doctor updated so he knows exactly how much you're using and how often.
  • Something to consider from a girl with a similar past, I couldn't do the percs, too tempting, my Doc put me on a Fentanyl Duragesic patch, it is a narcotic pain medication that is slow released through the skin for opiate tolerant patients, which means because of being addicted before your body builds up an immunity against oral meds like Percs, it has worked great for me, there is no way to abuse it as(well, I guess there is if you are desperate enough, but this stuff will kill you if taken orally or shot up) they use this in the ER and hospitals for its intense effectduring surgery, anyway it has really worked for me because it is always in your system, you dont have to sit on pins and needles waiting for your next dose, and speaking from experience, it keeps your hubby from being burdend with your drama, trust me no matter how much he loves you or how sweet he is , because I have the best, it becomes very taxing for them if you have to do it for long. I have been doing this for six years now.......good luck.....
  • Another alternative so you don't feel the urge to take more pills is the pain patches that contain the drug. I take percocets as well for numerous issues with my back. When I was younger I would drink and all that stuff to get the pain to go away, definitely not smart with the medications I was on. I have a hard time controlling my pain because it's partly muscle, other is bone. Narcotics really don't do much for muscle pain. I am also immune to alot of medications due to lack of receptors for the meds. My father is the same way, the dentist office is a nightmare for me! I have never tried the patches myself (ins. reasons) but I hear they are very effective from people that I know who use them.
