  • It would be fair enough to place the Metropolitan Park of Santiago, Chile. It has one of the largest urban parks in the world (722 hectareas or 1785 acres), just located in the downtown of this cosmopolitan 6-million people metropolis. It's called "San Cristobal Hill". This lush park includes a zoo, a cable car, international gardens and restaurants. Ideal for tourists, , outdoors sports, trecking, hiking, mountain bikin, panoramic swimming pool (Chilean summer, seasons are reversed). At the top of San Cristobal Hill, there are spectacular panoramic views of the city. Crowning the hilltop are beautiful tiered gardens and an impressive 45ft (15m) statue of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception that can be seen from most points in the city. (For Christians: here are open-air Religious services every Sunday noon). The climate is pleasant due its Mediterranean regime, similar to LA or Southern Europe, just consider that seasons are the opposite in Chile. How to get there? Easy by subway (Metro Baquedano) is excellent, clean and cheap. It costs about 50cents a ride and the french-modern train seems to always come in a few minutes. I hope it helps. • Chapultepec (the woods of Chapultepec) is the largest urban park in the Americas. With an extension of 2,000 acres (800 Ha), it is considered the second in the world after some other in Beijing. In its three sections, it encloses: 1. One of the most important and renowned anthropology museums in the world. 2. The only REAL castle in the continent (actual kings lived there, in Chapultepec Castle, when Mexico was an empire ruled by the Habsburgs from Austria), now Museum of National History. It was previously a resting place for aztec emperors. 3. A theme park 4. A zoo 5. Four World- class hotels (J.W. Marriott, Presidente, Nikko and W Hotel) 6. The National Auditorium, with capacity of 10,000 expectators 7. "Los Pinos", the President's House 8. Campo Marte, a military base where the National Guard is trained 9. Four more museums: Modern Art, Natual History, Technology and The Children's museum (called Papalote). It is noticeable that Mexico City has more museums than any other city in the world. 6. Three excellent restaurants. The best one is "El Lago" (the others are Meridiem and Café del Bosque) 7. Two lakes It's been an important scene for many important national events. No wonder it's nominated for being in the World Heritage List (it's not already in the list because we Mexicans tend to be messy and wreck all our valuable landmarks. • Sorry folks. It is important to do your research. The largest city owned park in the world is Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, at 9,200 acres. While these 9 thousand acres actually consist of 63 neighborhood parks, the biggest one of them alone along the Schuylkill River and Wissahickon Creek is actually 4,400 acres. New York's Central park is only 843 acres. But not only is Fairmount Park the largest park in the world, it is also the first urban park in the United States. No, it is not Central Park in NY, established in 1853. Fairmount Park goes back to 1682 and when the city was laid out by William Penn, the city's founder, who believed that having urban green space would make life in the cities more pleasant and reduce crime.
