  • No. Depression is caused by a chemical inbalance in the brain. Anger can be a manifestation of depression or anger unresolved could contribute to depression, but it is not the main cause.
  • In my case, I think it has been. While depression certainly is an illness caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, I think anger can trigger the characteristic thinking of depression. Looking back now at my last hospitalization, I see that I was angry at someone I didn't know I had "permission" to be angry at, so I turned it in on myself instead. To put it simply, I found it more acceptable to hurt myself rather than confront him. I now realize that I was being mistreated and had every reason to be angry at him, and that I wasn't the one who deserved to be hurt. I'd already been hurt enough. Then again, it could be a chicken-and-egg question. Had I not been a person who battles with depression, would I have felt more comfortable being angry at someone else?
  • Depression is caused by chemical imbalances. Anger can be a manifestation of depression but not a cause I don't think. I get depressed and then angry but I can get angry without being depressed lol! :)
