I don't know about "wrong response", because you have specified the details. But I think it's always useful to try to put yourself in the listener's place and imagine how your statements and questions are likely to be interpreted. This can be very difficult, of course ... and the more you know the person you're speaking to, the easier it gets. If you're talking to the general public (e.g. in a question or answer here on AB), the range of possible interpretations is quite wide often -- there's a lot of different kinds of people here. The better you are at anticipating how your words will be interpreted, the less likely you are to get unexpected responses. But you can never eliminate that possibility.
