I don't think there is just one. I love Ellen DeGeneres and comedians like her who choose to make observations about life rather than attack others or indulge in profanity to get a cheap laugh. I cannot stand comedians whose comedy relies on vulgarity, denigrating others, or being shocking and outrageous. There are probably as many styles of comedy in America as there are comedians. :)

Mostly crude, trashy, juvenile, slap-stick, lacking any sort of dimension, unfunny... At least, that fits the mainstream.
