I'd classify it as a cult, maybe some kind of fringe religion, and definitely not science.
-
I'd call it a cult, personally. I'd also call most, if not all, religions cults, though. Come to think of it, some scientific beliefs are rather cult-like. I'm so confused. &_&

Science masquerading as a Religion.
-
Neither. Ignorance.
-
A cult. The more I learn about it, the more freakish it seems to me.
-
A new religion founded by L. Ron Hubbard in 1955 and characterized by a belief in the power of a person's spirit to clear itself of past painful experiences through self-knowledge and spiritual fulfillment. http://www.rhymezone.com/r/rhyme.cgi?Word=Scientology The basic concepts given above are similar to Yoga methods of the Hindus. How they are implemented is bound to be different.
-
Neither.
-
It is definitely a cult. Not close to religion...or science for that fact
-
neither, it is either pure BS, or a cult
-
Neither. Science is based on establishing facts and theories through repeated trials. Scientology doesn't use the scientific method in establishing its beliefs. It's closer to a religion, but while most religions *want* money, they don't *require* it for you to become involved in the church. In the end, it's a money-gouging cult as far as I'm concerned. A very creepy money-gouging cult.

Not science or religion, but a cult. It is kind of like homeopathy and chiropractic, not based on any science but by one persons delusional ideas of how the world works. The science of all three of these "practices" has not advance since the day they were thought up. IE no science
-
It literally had its origins in science fiction, with a few "psychology"-like scientific trappings. It has many characteristics of a cult.
-
Cult. It has its basis in science fiction, written for the purpose of entertainment. It is only a "religion" because some morons decided they wanted to believe the science fiction works of Hubbard is the actual truth. That makes it a cult for sure.

cult

I have to agree with cult!
-
A kind of religion, and a highly controversial one. But it has also some components of a fringe science (or maybe even pseudoscience or junk science). Its possible materialistic orientation has been critisized. For someone who does not understand how some statements of the old religions can be maintained in the modern world, it could have some appeal. A form of amusement/entertainment?! ;-)
-
It sometimes calls itself an applied religious philosophy and that's the best description I've ever heard of Scientology. It is *not* scientific. Of course, it's not a cult since Scientology is the ology and not a group. However, I strongly believe that the Church of Scientology is a cult.
-
It is definitely a religion, albeit a scary one.
-
Its a cult in my opinion.
-
Religion, they're just as arrogant, and assert things that cannot be proven.
-
It calls itself an applied religious philosophy and I think that's a good term. I call the CHURCH of Scientology a cult. I was in it a long time and it behaves and conducts itself as a cult. Scientology itself is the ...ology and there are people who aren't in the cult who practice it. For me, it's not a scientific endeavor. It's about spirituality.
-
Pure religion. It makes no attempt to explain or demonstrate its theories in peer reviewed journals or similar. It claimed results are not reproducible by scientists. It has no relationship with science whatsoever.
-
It is more pseudoscience then anything else.
