In his philosophy exam my friend had to write an essay about how he is confident, he wrote "This is confidence." (thats it) and passed! I was very happy for him, but doubt if he really deserved a pass; what do you think?

I totally think that was smart. It's a philosophy class and thinking outside the box is KEY. Which he did. I would have been more sad had he not passed. Smart guy.

It's a classic way to get a good grade. I once read about this kid applying to some prestigious school (might have been Ivy League) that had to write about what he thought courage was for an application essay. He ended up writing "COURAGE" in big red letters across the whole form. It's a clever trick, and when it works, I think it deserves credit, because in a lot of cases it doesn't work. P.S. The "Courage" kid? He got acccepted.

I think he should have explained why he wrote that because one who understand philosophy well could think to answer like that, but also one who knows nothing about philosophy could say that too. I would advise anyone thinking to copy this kid to think twice because some teachers could regard this as being a smart-aleck and not caring about the class.
