  • No. stopping at truck weigh stations is restricted to vehicles with three or more axles, meaning tractor-trailer semi trucks. depending on the weight being transported, depends on the amount of tax to be paid by that individual truck owner or company. the highway use tax helps pay for new road construction and its upkeep. honk your horn as you pass by the weigh station....its not meant for you in a u-haul truck..
  • Non-commercial rental trucks are exempt from stopping at weight stations. However, some states have port-of-entry stations set up for "agricultural inspection", and all trucks -- commercial and non-commercial -- are required to stop at these. Usually, they are found upon entering Florida and California.
  • It would depend on if the truck was rented for commericial use or for personal use. If a trucking company has to call Penske and rent a 25 foot box truck, and has to display their company name on the unit then it would have to stop at the weigh station. It also depends on the truck that you rent, if you are renting a U-haul without air brakes or a GVW over 26,000 lbs when it would be considered for personal use. If was equipped with air brakes, which would require the driver to have a CDL, and you were grossing at more than 26,000 lbs it would be considered commericial. But that is only my take on the situation. It would be best to get the information before you rent or when you rent a truck from a truck renting/leasing company.
  • Since 9/11 happened some states do require any rental truck to cross the scales . Usually if this is the case you will see signs posted before the scales informing you of this .
  • Man if i were renting a U-haul i would stop maybe they would DOT it, too many of themgoing down the road unsafe.
  • In Nebraska you have to stop with any rental truck. Here is their site: http://www.nsp.state.ne.us/findfile.asp?id2=116
