My 1st son (7 yrs old) who has been been watching me breast feed my 2nd son (6 mths old) has expressed desire to also get fed which I quickly declined. My husband says it's ok & natural to be curious at his age. Is it ok to also breast feed my elder son?

I really would try and not go down that line! in my opinion you produce milk as you have had a baby therefore it is for BABIES not older people! can you imagine the teasing he would get at school. sorry to be harsh!

No. It's natural for him to be curious but it is not natural for him to be breast fed.

Many people in other countries breast feed the children on demand. It's very good for any age, full of minerals and the perfect balanced nutrition. Ancient texts preclude children from nursing past 10 years old but up till then its good for them and a comfort to them when they are feeling incsecure.

That's just rediculous I know it might sound prudish, but you should try to explain explain to him that he's a big boy. Would you give him a bottle if he asked? Of course not. You might also begin to be more descrete when you breastfeed when he's around since he seems to be confused. Yeah...go ahead and down rate me I don't care.

I think it's not so much a desire to be fed as perhaps a little bit of remaining jealousy over the new "competition" for mom & dad's attention. He sees that the baby is being held close, and given full attention while you're breastfeeding him, so he thinks that if he's fed, he'll get held close and have your full attention. Perhaps you can offer him the alternative of, "No, but you may sit next to me here on the chair, on my other side, and give me hugs!" Or something like, "No, but after I finish feeding the baby, you can help me put him down for a nap. Then you can sit on my lap and we'll read a book together. Would that be ok?" Not to mention that I'm fairly sure that once he got a taste of the breast milk and saw how much different it is than the "regular" (cow's) milk he is used to drinking, he'd not be so eager to have some. *laughs*

I have several lactivist friends that have come into such a situation, with differing results. One, when asked by her 6 year old daughter if she could have "momma milk", said "Okay", and the daughter just nodded and walked off. She didn't really WANT milk, just wanted to know that she wasn't going to be rejected by Mommy. Another offered the breast to her older son when he asked, and he just realised that he didn't even remember how to get milk, and that was the end of it. Breastfeeding is a very close, special time between mother and child, and feelings of jealousy are common between siblings. Sometimes the kids just need to know they're not losing their Mommy to this new baby.

Yes, it is natural to be curious. However, if your husband implied that it would be ok for your 7 year old to breastfeed, then put your 6 month old down, tuck him in nice and snug. Go over to your husband, and slap the shit out of him.

Most women in the world breastfeed their kids for 2 -5 years, only in western industrialized nations do women cut it short so they can go back to work... Ancient Jewish texts say up to 5 is ok but past 10 is not.
