No, I don't like playing it and I don't like it when other people assume that everyone is playing it, even when they already know I don't like it. If they insist on playing "punch buggy" I always end up giving "punch backs"

I forgot about that game!! And with all the new VW's on the road... I am so gonne get my hubbie!! Thanks for the memories!
-
lol. aggh. i hate it. but yes. including mustang bang. cruiser bruiser. hummer bummer. all that childish stuff. gets you by in a boring road trip. ANyone else remember more?

No - and I never have, really. I grew up with my parents having a whole series of probably ten or so bugs, and our arms would have fallen off if we played it, just from walking out into the driveway! (They still have two... the rest have all died or been sold.)
-
I did, but only after I found out about it at the rather late age of mid teens. It would have been much more fun and something different to "corners" if I had learned about it earlier! :)
-
Sure do! Mainly 'cause I have a Beetle. I even have a shirt that has a picture of a Beetle and says, "No punch backs".
-
I don't, but I have a 73 bug and people are always telling me it's "my fault" they got punched, so they are still playing out there...fun question
-
Yes. Until it gets old... then we pick it back up again. Sucks when you pass the dealership!!!
-
Of course, it's mandatory. If it looks like a stoner Bug, then it's a double punch.

We used to play it at primary school in the 70s, but when we saw a VW Beetle it was "Punch Car" we used to shout as we assaulted our mates. We never employed a scoring system or anything, it was basically an excuse to hit people. I'd totally forgotten about it until Bart did "Punch Buggy" on Lisa in an episode of "The Simpsons" I watched earlier today (hilariously, they later passed a VW showroom with 1000s of Beetles - chaos ensued). I never understood the origin of this bizarre ritual and assumed that it was something peculiar to our school (in a quiet corner of rural Angus, Scotland). Clearly though it was far more widespread.
