It's when a third party is recruited to take sides in an argument between two people. This can happen in families, where one parent uses a child to "gang up" against the other parent -- for example, by bad mouthing the other parent to the child, and turning the other parent into "the bad one". Or the child has managed to get one of the parents on their side, in an argument with the other parent. A relationship is considered triangulated when these conditions are a chronic cause of conflict in the family.
