  • I believe 240 would equal the amount in dollars you would be expected to contribute towards the yearly cost of your college tuition and expenses. I do not believe this would make you ineligible for aid. The number is very low. Someone please correct me if I am wrong but I believe it would work like this: If you had an EFC of 0 with no expected family contribution and the cost for the year that your school calculated was, lets say, 12,000.00 and the school authorized you for aid to cover all of the tuition than you would get the full 12,000.00. With an efc of 240 you would get 11760.00 (the amount you would have received with an EFC of 0 minus the actual 240 EFC ($240.00)
  • I believe your explanation is incorrect. Your EFC is not the amount of money your family will have to pay for college nor is it the amount of federal student aid you will receive. It is a number used by your school to calculate the amount of federal student aid you are eligible to receive.
