  • It comes down to supply and demand.They are easy to catch and should not be near the cost they are at.It is just the public is willing to pay the high prices of eating them.
  • Effort of finding and catching. Nutritional value has little to do with costs. You have to put out traps (lobster pots) and tour round pulling them up every dat to check for catch. Presumably, not too many pots deliver results.
  • At last check the wholesale price for lobster (what fishermen get at the wharf in Boston) was $2.85/lb. I still can't understand why they sell for $8-$10/lb retail in the stores...and gosh why they are so rediculously expensive in restaurants. Also, Today's wholesale lobster prices are at a 5/6 year low but the retail price is at an all time high. Price gouging?? Price fixing at the retail level?? You be the judge... For sure it doesn't have anything to do with fuel prices as diesel is at a long time low as of this writing.
