No but being spiritual does not make a person either good or bad. An atheist was probably the most respected person I know! I come from the other side as it were but some atheists are the most delightful and upright people that I know btu they would all be offended by being called spiritual. Moral is a better description!

An atheist as far as I understand does not believe in a God. One can be spiritual and not believe in a God, as for some spirituality simply means opening to higher consciousness or developing higher potential, which can exist without a Creator God.
-
Sure we can. To be atheist is simply to believe any gods we have around are man-made rather than vice-versa. We can still meditate, tap into those deep regions of the inner mind and have experiences described as 'spiritual'. It is just that we (or "I" so as not to generalise) consider these experiences to be fully 'human' and not some communication with some supernatural being with an existence outside our own.

I'm definitely an nonreligous atheist with a developed spiritual side. It mostly resembles Natural Philosophy. Such as; A river is greater than a lake, or what something is depends also on what you are, or when two stones collide in the air you cannot predict where they will land and such is life everyday.

yes. although many people use religion as a means to try to become more spiritual, being religious and spiritual are not synonomous. i am a spiritual atheists, and i know others who are the same in that regard.

I am a free thinking secular humanist/atheist. I often think that spiritual has to do with something deep within us that cannot be defined as has a life unto itself which makes us come alive. If so, I am spiritual. I don't believe in Divine Spirits or anything not of this world, so the word to me is difficult to defien. I just try to be the best I can morally and lawfully and if there ever turns out to be a God/Heaven (which I don't believe exists) but if so, then that God will say "Curious Frank, you used the brain I gave you, you were good to mankind...etc....and I welcome you to the Table." I will not dwell on that time and I hope that I live my life in the "spirit" that I set out to live it. +

What do you mean by spiritual? Usually people who are spiritual believe in a higher power of some type. Spiritual people have some type of faith, they might believe in a god, an afterlife, etc. Spirituality relies on a measure of faith. Atheism is the absence of all belief and superstition. A spiritual atheist is a total oxymoron. But honestly, you have to decide what it means to you. Only you can decide if you can be a spiritual atheist. To me that doesn't make sense, but to you, it might make perfect sense. Don't let anyone decide your beliefs or nonbeliefs for you. Since nothing is written in stone, you can define things for yourself as you wish.

Buddhists are atheists. They are very spiritual.

I don't understand it myself and I'm not even quite sure what 'spiritual' is all about. I know that I personally couldn't be anything with a spirit in it - unless it refers to alcohol. However, I've heard a lot of Atheists that claim to be so to each its own
-
I can picture someone believing in spirits but not gods, or someone that had a mystical view of the universe that lacks gods. An atheist isn't necessarily an existentialist.
-
Belief doesn't make anyone spiritual, insight does.

When someone says, "I'm spiritual." or asks "Are you spiritual?", I've got to say I don't really know what they mean. I don't think people go by some dictionary meaning, they have their own connotation. I'd say be careful how you answer the question until you know the questioner's definition.

An atheist? Those are people that don't believe in god right? Well, I think that they can. I know and have heard of lots of people that are spiritual. A lot of them live in families that believe in god too. But as for the people themselves, I have the impression that they don't believe in god. So I'm almost certain that an atheist can be spiritual. Besides, there have been a lot of famous spiritual people that don't believe in god. Just think of who started Buddhism. I'm really sure that he didn't believe in god, but he certainly was spiritual.

Absolutely! Spirituality isn't just about God (or a god). You can believe in God and not be spiritual. . . you have to have that connection, which means it has to be personal. It's about you!
