  • There are many possibilities here. If the landing and subsequent touchdown was made at a speed higher than allowable, this could be a reason to blow a tire on impact. A plane too heavy to land is another possibility. Striking a piece of debris on the runway is probably the most dangerous, although airliners have sucessfully landed gearless. Perhaps the most famous incident of this such thing happening was the Concorde incident. The aircraft struck a piece of debris on the runway, blowing one of the tires, which subsequently flew off and hit the wing fuel tank, jolting the fuel and causing it to rupture and catch fire.
  • I am told that there is an electric motor on the wheels of big aircraft that get them rolling before they touch down. If this motor fails, that could cause a tire to blow.
  • Heat. Most likely cause of a tyre deflating is heat from a high speed aborted take off. The tyres don't explode, but they contain fusible plugs which will melt and allow the tyre to deflate if the heat/pressure rises too high.
