I would try Brain Academy or those other brain teasers. I found out to be a very nice game. Or of course, you try my favorite game, Pokemon Diamond and Peral.

If you want fast-paced action, Mario Kart DS is definitely a must-have. You can race against three other people around the world via your wireless internet (if you have it), and even race against seven other DS owners on a more private network. If you don't have your own wireless network, you can head over to your nearest McDonald's restaurant and race there. A word of warning: Not all McDonald's locations have wireless internet. If you're more into puzzle-based games, try either Tetris DS (an essential) or Picross DS. Even though I've downloaded and played the demo version, Picross is really addictive, that is, if you like making pixel art.
