Depends on what the individual considers wealth.

A poor person can only be so happy, because of a lack of funds. but, a rich person may be miserable, but has the funds to be happy...maybe. no amount of money can buy true happiness. being in law enforcement for 40 years, i can say that my wife and i have not been rich people. we sometimes border the poverty level, but somehow, we have made it together for 40 years. i guess you could say this is true happiness. having all the riches in the world, now, would only enhance our happiness together. i wonder what the divorce rate is among the rich and famous? maybe this proves my point. lets face it, money cannot buy what most happy poor people have........happiness. just ask a recent, rich divorcee!

Without music the richest person is poor.. so enjoy the vibes. :-) How is rich defined? Western society is materialistic so money decides whether or not a person is successful. The expectations are high so while the person is busy being successful they could be very miserable. It’s the expectations that make the person want more and more wealth. By a long shot the "happy poor person" is wealthier in contentment and joy. They have something money can't buy. Add a few dollars to that for good nutrition, health care and basic necessities he/she has it made and would become happier. A "miserable rich person" on the other hand would be miserable when poor too. Money is not the deciding factor on happiness. If a person is miserable in spirit no amount of money will change that. There are exceptions. Some rich people are very happy and some poor people are very miserable.

A happy poor person would be wealthier in happiness and in joy of life than a miserable rich person.

Wealth is defined as having an abundance of items of value. Happiness is defined as a prolonged or lasting emotional or affective state that feels good or is pleasing. Since emotions can only be experienced and can not be purchased or sold, they can have no value. Is having Wealth a requirement for happiness? It can not be since we have already said that there exists at least one instance of a happy poor person. Since the concept of wealth is independant of happiness then the miserable rich person has more wealth, even though he is not very happy about it.
-
a happy poor person can be much happier than a rich person because money cannot buy happiness
-
