Keep in mind "everything in moderation"!

I believe that it is.. when it comes to medication. Should look into nonmedicinal, natural ways of acieving clarity & calm... there are so many natural ways!!! certain foods contribute to clarity. hot soup contributes to calmness. Massage, hot baths, focus vitaminwater, red tea, dark chocolate, snuggling up in a comfy bed, prayer.

I kind of think that meditation keeps you calm, happy, peace-filled, and loving, which are good things. Doing less of it would mean lower levels of good things. Of course if that's your entire life, sitting there blissed out, or if you physically or emotionally neglect your loved ones or lose your job because you "call in meditating" too often, that's bad.

How can it be unhealthy to be calm and focused?

I think it's a mistake to rely on meditation for clarity and calm, yes. This is a subtle point -- if you have the notion that you're meditating in order to gain something, that isn't really meditating... it's being caught up in your ideas about "clarity and calm" (or whatever it is you're seeking). But meditation is NOT being caught up in ANY idea -- it's being aware of such things as merely thoughts. Now, it just so happens, that when you're able to "get behind" all of the thoughts and see them for what they are, what's present is a quiet and expansive sense of the wholeness and unity of experience... but the moment you turn that into a concept and start pursuing it, you're right back to the same old game everybody else is playing: trying to get somewhere other than here-and-now! This is why it's said that one should "just sit" without any intention to gain anything -- because anything you hold as a goal is just another concept. Seeing all those and letting go of them allows NOW to show up freshly... not some replay of a previous experience, but a NEW experience: this moment. So you should rely on meditation just for it's own sake.

I dont believe its healthy to become obsessive about anything. Those who do become still will know that its a good thing and perhaps the term 'reliant' is a misnomer in this case. Meditation becomes a way of life and brings balance, peace and a number of good things... But I cant speak for others. I can use my car to get something from the shop down the road but I not reliant on the car... I could walk :) There is merit in both but I am not reliant on the car to get to the shop...

I don't think it is unhealthy to rely on doing something healthy..meditation, exercise, whatever helps to keep one balanced. Now, medicating oneself is not good..relying on sleeping pills, or anything else is probably not healthy (unless, of course, the doctor has prescribed it because of some long-term imbalance in your chemistry..if you are diagnosed with depression, for example).

Yes. i think meditation helps you to get calmed at some point but to always rely on that to keep you in that state of mind its really unhealthy there are so many other ways to accomplish that imo.
