I'm going to walk away for about a week with my wife, cats and dog. We are going to a cabin in the middle of nowhere by a river tomorrow. No computers, no phones, just us. Do you think you could be disconnected for a week?

Yes, I feel it is imperative to disconnect now and then.

Thanks, and we disconnected as much as we could (a couple of phone calls, but no computers). My wife and I went wandering around in a river in the mountains with the dog in the mountains. It was hard the first day, but there was a certain feeling of release on day two.

Yes, once I get into the beauty of nature, I don't really miss the "e-world".

Do it! It is so worth it. The first day you are worried about getting in touch, by the afternoon of day two, and you've walked through the woods, you recall the days before you always had to be on and wonder why. Day three, it's human, and nature. It was great.

It was nice. We had to drive about 20 minutes to get cell reception, but didn't. Wooded area, mountain fed river, a train going by on occasion. It was nice.

I have to say, it was nice. Breaking away from tech for a week. I think my wife had a harder time with it than I did. The first couple of days were odd, but once you let go, it is bliss.

I grew up in a place and time that if we heard an airplane overhead, we ran outside to look at it, lol! And that was in Southern Missouri in the late'40's. In the Ozarks! Farm.

Oh yeah! I spend my whole summer vacations disconnected. That's why there's that lapse from June to mid August when I'm not here.

I'm back, and I really loved it! There is something about building a firepit, and watching the racoons watching you at night.

When I first read this, I thought you said you were walking away FROM your wife and animals! I'm glad I mis-read! Haha.

I actually JUST got back from camping for a week, where I was disconnected. It was unintentional though. I brought my cell phone, but it didn't get service where I was.

Leaving tomorrow morning. And I disagree with your thoughts on not having tied to "real life", when you are out in the middle of nowhere, you are more tied to real life. The electronic connections we've created are not the natural part of life.
Avatar Shelby Sep, 17 2007 at 02:19 PM
As usual, you make an excellent point. :) Have a safe trip, Nelson!

Not quite a week (came home early) but it was nice!
